Laboratory Operations Technician

The Laboratory Operations Technician will be responsible for providing a range of services to support intrexon’s AgBio Division. As the foundation of research operations, lab support is critical to processes in all labs and this position will interact with scientists across all functions.

Description:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lab support (60-70%)
    • Labware washing duties, including collection from the lab, washing in an industrial lab dishwasher, screening and redistribution clean labware.  
    • Inventory of all standard and custom laboratory consumables; ensures supplies and consumables are kept at acceptable levels.
    • Housekeeping duties to ensure general use areas and equipment are kept clean and neat.
    • Laboratory equipment maintenance, including cleaning, calibrating, and/or ensuring accessories are organized, neat, and maintained in good condition.
  • Assist with controlled plant growth operations (20-25%)
    • Washing and sanitation of plant vessels.
    • Assist with organizing and stocking of planting supplies and vessels.
    • Assist with the inventory of research plants through labeling, tagging, scanning, inputting, reporting into plant pedigree and inventory management system.
    • Research plant seed harvesting, cleaning, storing. 
    • As needed, assist with basic plant care including planting, watering, fertilizing, staking and securing, removal of dead tissue, and harvesting of research plants.
    • As needed, assist with transplanting, sampling, and data recording
  • Purchasing (15-20%)
    • Submitting purchase requisitions into ReQlogic software. This includes ensuring company discounts are applied, obtaining competitive bids, correct coding of purchases, timely entry into ReQlogic, etc.
    • As needed, set up new vendors and coordinate returns.
  • Participate in the site’s safety program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
              
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BS degree in biology preferred, or combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 year’s relevant experience in a laboratory and/or plant growth facility environment.
  • Experience with Safety Program is desired.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office suite of programs including Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.
