Research Associate I or II, Strain Engineering

We are seeking a talented Research Associate (level determined by candidate experience), Strain Engineering for our Industrial Products Division (IPD) located in South San Francisco. The Research Associates will be key players in our high throughput strain construction operations. All candidates should have strong molecular/microbiology skills, exquisite attention to detail, excellent organizational and thrive in a dynamic team environment.

Description:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be a key member of a team that will support IPD’s metabolic engineering and strain development platforms.
  • Execute high throughput DNA and strain construction in a timely manner with high fidelity.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA sub-cloning, gene expression analysis, and other more advanced methods in support of research projects.
  • Design and perform experiments for metabolic pathway testing and optimization, as well as strain modification and optimization
  • Work in partnership with other IPD teams (assay development and screening, analytical, and fermentation) to advance projects.
  • Responsible for performing basic troubleshooting.
  • Be a conscientious laboratory citizen, adhere to EH&S standards use knowledge of laboratory procedures to advance projects under rapidly shifting priorities and timelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BS in molecular biology, microbiology, or a related field.
  • 0-3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • A proven track record of accomplishments and timely delivery on goals.
  • Experience in the following areas preferred:
    • Strain/metabolic engineering in prokaryotic or eukaryotic microorganisms.
    • DNA construction and strain engineering in microbial host systems
